How to find your face shape

Lights, camera…wait, my hair doesn’t seem right! Finding the perfect hairstyle can be a challenge. It’s happened: your friend got a new cut that you absolutely loved and decided to try it for yourself—all to find out it didn’t flatter you in the same way. There are many reasons why you would wear it differently, but a main one is your face shape versus hers. All face shapes are beautiful, but it is essential to have a hairstyle that accentuates your features in a proper, flattering way. First things first—what is your face shape? To get a precise idea, you’ll need a measuring tape and mirror. Here’s what you need to do:

  • From the top of your forehead (hairline) straight down to the tip of your chin, measure the length of your face.
  • Find the widest part of your forehead, near your temples, and measure across to the same point on the other side.
  • Place your fingertip at the outer corner of your eye and trace down until you feel the top of your cheekbone, approximately one inch below, then measure to the same point on the opposite side.
  • Find your jawline where it begins under your ear and measure to the tip of your chin (then double this number to account for the other side).
  • Then, once all four steps are completed, it is time to compare numbers to see if your face shape is round, oval, triangle, oblong, diamond, square or heart.

Round Face Shape Hairstyles

Round Face Shape

If your face is round, you’ll find that some of your measurements were similar to one another, like your face length and cheekbone widths, but that these are greater in length than your forehead width and jawline length (face length ≈ cheekbones but greater than forehead ≈ jawline).

If you enjoy a short cut, adding height on top will elongate the appearance of your face. Try a Faux Hawk style where the top remains longer than the sides, allowing you to really work in some texture and height which will draw the eye upward.

If you prefer longer styles, go for something long and sleek, maybe adding in some face-framing angles. The added length of your hair will provide an elongated feel and will draw the eye downward. Don’t be afraid to add a bang to this look, but avoid blunt lines which add the appearance of width to your forehead—instead, try an angled side-swept bang.

Oval Face Shape Hairstyles

If you found your cheekbone and forehead widths are similar and jawline measurement the shortest, you have an oval face shape (cheekbone ≈ forehead but greater than jawline). You are in luck! Almost all hairstyles will work for you because an oval face shape is well-proportioned and super versatile. So, focus on your hair texture and find what you feel most comfortable with, whether it means making a bold statement or keeping it simple and elegant.

Oval Face Shape

Triangle Face Shape Hairstyles

With a prominent jawline, this measurement is larger than your cheekbone width, which is larger than your forehead width, meaning you have a triangle face shape (jawline is greater than cheekbone which is greater than forehead).

Your goal will be creating the illusion of a wider forehead while downplaying your jawline. Short styles look nice with this face shape because of the added volume and texture around your forehead. You can vary the amount of volume with layers and styling, but try a side-parted crop with a side-swept bang.

If you prefer longer hair, avoid chin-length bobs and long, sleek styles as these will draw attention to your jawline. Instead, embrace layers as they will add softness and balance. Try a gently inverted bob that falls below your chin and angles up toward the back, keeping blunt lines away from your chin.

Oblong Face Shape Hairstyles

If you have an oblong face shape, your face length is longer than your cheekbone width, forehead width and jawline which are all rather similar (cheekbone ≈ forehead ≈ jawline but shorter than face length).

The goal with an oblong face shape is to avoid a style that makes your face appear longer, like long, straight hair that just drags your features down. Medium length styles will work wonders for you, as they’ll add bulk to the sides. A perfect cut is a classic bob, either sleek or textured. These are heavy in weight around your chin so will help widen the appearance of your face.

You also have the ability to rock a solid, heavy bang. Bangs are a great way to spruce up any style as they complete a look without putting a lot of extra time into your morning routine. A heavy fringe will add a sense of width to your forehead and keep your features looking balanced.

Diamond Face Shape Hairstyles

Diamond Face Shape

With varying measurements, if you have a diamond face shape you will find your face length being the longest, followed by cheekbone width, followed by forehead width, followed by jawline length (face length > cheekbone > forehead > jawline). Like those with oblong face shape, the length of your face can easily be dragged down so avoid short styles with a lot of volume on top, or long, sleek styles. Mid-length styles will work well to shorten the appearance of your face and to complement your strong cheekbones. Be careful not to add too much volume at your cheekbones, you want to keep it fuller toward the ends. Textured styles come in great here. Adding soft waves at and below chin length will help balance your proportions. However, your strong cheekbones are a beautiful attribute so try tucking one side behind your ear or pinning it back with a clip. Because your face shape is angular, you need to be a bit careful with bangs and want to steer clear of anything too blunt. A soft, side-swept bang would complement your style adding an appearance of width to your forehead but not taking too much away from your cheekbones.

Square Face Shape Hairstyles

Did you find that all four of your measurements are roughly the same (face length ≈ forehead ≈ cheekbone ≈ jawline)? You have a square face shape. Adding length to your hair will help make your face appear longer and soften your angular shape. Long styles with long layers and a face-framing angle, starting below your chin, would be a flattering option for you. Another great elongating style is the angled bob. This would sit just below your jawline and provide soft, angular lines to compliment your geometric angles without adding bulk. Don’t worry, there is no rule that your hair needs to be long if you’re blessed with square face shape, but avoid anything too blunt. A short style with blunt bangs wouldn’t work well for you but a sleek crop cut would look nice. Pairing any of these looks with a side-swept bang would be ideal as it will soften and add length to your face shape.

Square Face Shape

 Heart Face Shape Hairstyles

If your forehead width is larger than your cheekbone width which is larger than your jawline, you have a heart face shape (forehead > cheekbone > jawline).

Your jawline is angular and narrow so adding volume in this area will help you feel more proportionate with the breadth of your forehead. A bob, either chin-length or a little longer, is a great look for you. While sleek on top, this will add volume around your chin. Adding a side-swept bang is important to soften the appearance of your forehead. Still incorporating a soft bang, typically side-swept, a long style with long layers will be a desirable and elegant look to accentuate and balance your facial proportions.

There are many face shapes and even more styling options so don’t hesitate to try new looks. Sometimes all it takes to complete a look is to add a bang of the right kind to complement your features. At your next appointment, talk to your Hair Cuttery stylist about what look might work best for your features and hair type. Have fun and don’t be afraid to play with a few different styles!

A Man’s Guide: Best Hairstyles for Your Face Shape

Finding a hairstyle that works with your face shape can be a challenge. To achieve that suave style and choose a look that’s flattering, first you need to determine your face shape. You’re unsure where to begin, but fear not—figuring it out is easy.

How to Find Your Face Shape

You will need to take four measurements and compare them to one another. First, measure the length of your face from the top of your forehead (hairline) straight down to the tip of your chin. Second, measure across your forehead from the widest point, near your temples, across to the same point on the other side. Third, measure your cheekbones from roughly one inch below the outer corner of your eye (or where you feel the top of your cheekbone) to the same point on the opposite side. Fourth, measure your jawline from where it begins under your ear to the tip of your chin (then double this number to account for the other side). Once these four steps are completed, it is time to compare numbers and determine your face shape.

Round Face Shape

If your face length and cheekbone widths are about the same, but greater in length than your forehead width and jawline, which are also similar, you have a round face. The best men’s hairstyles for a round face shape will focus on adding height and avoiding flattened looks. A high to medium fade on the sides and back with longer hair on top will help elongate your face, like the Pompadour hairstyle. The Faux Hawk hairstyle is another great option consisting of short sides and back that blend into a longer top that is styled to a center crest.

Oval Face Shape

mens face shape- oval

Your face length is longer than your cheekbone and forehead widths, which are about the same, with your jawline being the shortest. You are fortunate that many styles will work for you as this shape is considered well-proportionate. Try a Side-Part style that has a strong, defined part or the Comb-Over style which is similar but calls for the hair to fall from its natural part. Steer clear of a low bang, or fringe, as this would give a rounder appearance to your face.

Triangle Face Shape

Your jawline measures larger than your cheekbone width, which measures larger than your forehead width. With a prominent jawline, drawing attention to your forehead with a Side-Part style will provide balance to your proportions. This style varies from medium to short lengths that are uniformly longer on top, parted to one side, and held in place with a gel or pomade. Or, try a Crew Cut which is short on the sides and back with a gentle transition to a longer top that is pushed forward or swept to one side. Avoid bringing any fade up too high because you want the illusion of a wider forehead and doing so would negate that.

Oblong Face Shape

Your cheekbone width, forehead width and jawline are rather similar but shorter than your face length. The goal with an oblong face shape is to avoid adding too much height or making the sides too short. Keeping it simple here is best. Try a traditional scissor cut that keeps the style soft and balanced all around.

Diamond Face Shape

Face length is your largest measurement, followed by cheekbone width, followed by forehead width, followed by jawline length. With strong cheekbones, avoid going too short on the sides as this could unfavorably accentuate your ears. The balance will be finding a soft style that compliments your proportions, like a medium-length razor cut. If you prefer a shorter style, try the classic Fringe hairstyle which has a longer bang section that can hang forward or be swept to the side.

Square Face Shape

All four of your measurements are roughly the same. Like the oval face shape, you are fortunate that many styles will work for your equal proportions. Because your face has defined lines, steer clear from a cut that is too geometric. Try an undercut that is characteristic of tight sides and a long, styled top.

Heart Face Shape

man with heart shaped face

Your forehead width is larger than your cheekbone width which is larger than your jawline. A Fringe style would work well because hair swept across your forehead will help minimize its breadth. The Fringe style can range in lengths but be careful not to take the sides and back too short as the goal is to even out your facial proportions by adding bulk along your jawline.

No matter what your face shape, there are many styles to try. If you are not satisfied with one, don’t be afraid to try another. When in doubt ask your HC stylist which cut and style would work best for you.

We all want to look and feel our best, but finding the time and motivation to care for ourselves is challenging. One easy way to look and feel great is by getting a haircut. While you may think this is just about aesthetics, there are many hidden benefits of getting a regular haircut that impacts our mental, physical, and financial health. Here we list the hidden benefits of getting a haircut that you may have yet to consider

Getting a regular haircut can significantly impact our mental health and emotions.

Maintaining good grooming is essential for our mental well-being. One of the significant benefits of getting a haircut is improved confidence. A good haircut can make us look and feel better and give us an extra boost of self-confidence.

Another positive effect of regular haircuts is lowered stress and anxiety levels. Taking better care of our appearance helps us feel better about ourselves and thus reduces our overall stress levels. When we look good, we feel good.

Getting a regular haircut has physical benefits.

Regular trims and styles can help reduce scalp itchiness and irritation, as proper hygiene helps keep the scalp clean and healthy.

A good haircut promotes better scalp circulation, helping stimulate healthier hair growth. This means we can have fuller, shinier locks that are less prone to breakage.

In addition, regular cuts and treatments can help reduce damage from heat styling and other elements that contribute to unhealthy hair. All of these physical benefits come together to help keep our manes looking beautiful, healthy, and full of life.

Benefits of Getting a haircut regularly

Getting regular haircuts have financial benefits.

Regular trims help keep your hair looking healthy, enabling you to save money on products and treatments that are used to counteract damage due to split ends or dryness.

You can save money on these expensive services by avoiding the need for more intensive solutions, such as dyes and other chemical treatments.

Getting regular haircuts help you buy quality products.

If you have a great hairstyle you love, there is less of an urge to buy certain products and treatments just because they’re popular or recommended by a friend.

Investing in quality hair care products can save you money in the long run, as it is often cheaper to buy one good product than several mediocre ones. Quality products can also increase the longevity of your hairstyle, meaning less frequent trips to the hairdresser and more money saved. Investing in quality can ensure that you get a great look that lasts longer.

Having products with natural-ingredients like; shea butter, eucalyptus, and biotin give your hair the nourishment it needs and the salon quality it deserves.

No matter what hairstyle you choose, make sure it suits your lifestyle and lifts your confidence. Most importantly, ensure you take the time to care for your hair properly. Proper maintenance includes regular trips to the salon, washing, conditioning, brushing, and using quality products to keep it healthy and looking its best. Then, with a little effort, you can find the perfect hairstyle to make you look and feel your best year-round.

Find your closest salon and book your hair appointment now.

Short Hair, Don’t Care!

The dog days of summer are here and you may be wondering“Should I cut my hair?” Are you contemplating a power pixie haircut or other trendy short hair looks, but still on the fence about trying a whole new look? Cutting your hair can actually be quite fun and flirty! We’ve picked our top looks for going shorter from the HC Lookbook. Keep scrolling for all the haircut inspiration you need before heading to the salon.

Blunt Bob

short hair cut blunt bob
Hair by Cindy M. (IG: @munekitamoxas)

This version of the bob is blunt and hits at the jawline, but when tucked behind the ear, you’ll get an A-line effect. It’s also great if you’re looking to make your hair appear fuller because the shape will make your hair look as thick as possible.

This style works best on straight hair, but if you have wavy or curly hair, it’s also a cool look. If you want more volume on the sides (long face shapes), choose a jawline length. If you want to create length in the face (round or angular face shape) leave the length longer, in a lob.

Bob With Bangs

You’re not sick of your bob just yet, but you want to freshen up your super trendy cut? Add a set of bangs. Bangs will change the face frame of the haircut and give you a fresh, new look.

If you have curly hair, work with the natural texture of your hair and don’t go too short. With straight hair, keep your face shape in mind when choosing the bang style you like.

Grown out Pixie

Short Hair cut grown out pixie
Hair by Tiffany (IG: @tifdmn)

This pixie is short on the sides with long, choppy layers up top. We LOVE this hairstyle because there’s a ton of ways that you can style it.  With a round face shape, go for more volume on top. For a long face shape, you can wear the front part down, and you can alter it with a messy fringe. Invest in pomades, like Cibu Sticky Rice to style your hair cut.

Before the cut

Not all short hairstyles complement all people. So when our Guests come in and request a particular look or show us pictures of celebrities, we want to accommodate them – but we simply wouldn’t be professionals if we didn’t offer some insight into what haircut would look best and fit into your lifestyle. Still undecided? Talk it over with your stylist and ask him or her to offer suggestions to help you select a style. Then share your new ‘do with us by snapping a selfie and posting with #MyHCLook to Instagram!

Wondering what the right haircut is for you can be challenging. Maybe you feel your hair is too thin or too thick and wonder how you can make it feel lighter, bouncier or fuller. Layers are a great way to change up a look, but there are some things to consider based on your hair and your styling goals.

Factors for Layers

Woman with medium length hair and layers

Layers are when the top portions of your hair are cut shorter than hair underneath. Layers can range from short to long, and can either be connected—a gradual flow of layers from the shortest layer to longest length—or disconnected, with a layer much shorter than the overall length. There are a few factors to consider when thinking about adding layers to your haircut.

  • How thick or thin is your hair? If your hair is thick, it can feel heavy if not cut in a certain way. This weight can start adding unwanted bulk which is more noticeable at certain lengths. A common complaint for medium length hair is that it falls in a triangular bell-shape. This is a perfect example of when layers would be a positive addition to your cut because they will remove weight from the ends, allowing the hair to have more movement. If you fall into the “category” of thick hair but really don’t love layers, ask your Hair Cuttery stylist about removing some weight from the underneath sections of your hair without adding a defined layer. If your hair is on the thinner side, you may want to steer clear of layers. Layers can be a disservice to thin hair because taking away hair from the longest length can leave this section looking sparse and straggly. This isn’t always the case and some people simply prefer a layer so they can add more volume to the style. Here, a disconnected layer at the crown would help give that pop of volume without taking too much from the ends.
  • How long is your hair? Still keep in mind the quantity of hair here because those factors play largely into medium and long length styles and some short styles. However, the shorter your hair is cut—like a pixie, for instance—the more the whole cut is based around layers as there really isn’t a base length anymore. This applies to both thin and thick hair. Thick hair is easier to add layers to at any length simply because you’re working with more hair; but a really important length to focus on adding layers is right around shoulder-length (above to just past) as this is where that triangular shape can really take over, adding unfavorable bulk to the sides of the face.
  • How fine or coarse is your hair? No matter how thick or thin your hair is, the texture plays a role, too. If your hair is fine and thick, layers will help reduce weight and add movement. If it’s fine and thin, light layers might be preferred, to keep as much hair as possible. Coarse, thick hair is typically very layer-friendly and frequently preferred. If the terms of thin, fine, thick and coarse are a bit unclear to you, check out our post How to Make Thin Hair Appear Thicker where these differences are discussed.
  • Curly or straight? Those of you with curly hair may prefer more layering than those with straight hair no matter what you determined for the previous factors. Curls tend to respond well and behave better when there is not a blunt weight line as layers allow them more movement and bounce which helps them lay better. Those with straight hair will find themselves relying on the previous three factors to determine what’s best for their hair.

Choosing Your Layered Cut

Now that you’ve considered the above factors, it’s time to think about the right style for you. To help with this decision, also check out our blogs on face shapes for both women and men. Based on some different hair combinations, here are a few suggestions for layers:

  • Long length and medium to thick hair: Add many lengths of layers to create a cascading appearance. This looks especially nice on wavy hair or hair blown out with a large round brush.
  • Short to medium length and medium to thick hair: Blunt looks are popular, like the bob and lob (long bob), but for you adding lots of texture and removing weight in addition to some long layers will help this trendy style work for you. Otherwise, opt for a long, textured, medium to long layered cut.
  • Long length and thin hair: Try for all one length. Skipping layers altogether will keep your hair looking full. Add some face-framing angles to perk up the style. This will positively add to the overall appearance and prevent your long, thin hair from dragging down your face. This would be an ideal look for straight or wavy hair.
  • Short to medium length and thin hair: A blunt bob cut would work wonders for you. The bluntness and length combined will really add a sense of fullness. If your hair is straight, adding texture to it with a curling iron or wand will create a more voluminous style. If you really like height, add a very light, shorter layer at the crown.
  • Short length and thin hair: If your hair is thin, don’t be afraid to go short, like pixie short. Short cuts are based around layers and can allow you to achieve considerable volume. Or, take it the other way and make this a super sleek ‘do.
  • Long length and curly: You’ve likely devoted much time over the years to figuring out your curls. Layers really help give you bounce and manageability but don’t cut your layers too short. Try a long style with medium to long layers.

When in doubt, do things gradually. Add layers in slowly, or work to grow them out bit by bit. Layers can be magical when cut appropriately so talk to your Hair Cuttery stylist about what layers would make you look and feel great. See more looks by Hair Cuttery stylists on the HC Lookbook.

Spring Hair Trends

Hair Cuttery Artistic Director, Rodney Cutler, recently shared his expertise on spring hair trends. Inspired by all the fashion shows Rodney and his team style for New York Fashion Week, we asked him what are the cut, color, and style trends for all our spring guests to know this season. Here are some key takeaways to consider when changing it up this season at Hair Cuttery.

Spring Hair Cut Trends

spring trends pixie cut at hair cutteryspring trends bob with bangs at Hair Cuttery

Change it up for spring with a fresh cut. On trend for spring are haircuts that offer versatility like a longer pixie or a longer layered shag. Both are great options for shorter hair looks. If you’ve got long hair or just want to change up your bob or lob, go for a subtle change with bangs. Rodney says, “Introducing bangs gives long hair some excitement while retaining length.”

Spring Hair Color Trends

Highlights and balayage are still classic go-tos for getting sun-kissed hair for spring, but for those in the fashion fast lane, this is not your classic hair color! Vivid hair colors usually tend to be bold. Flaming reds, deep blues, and purples or bright pink grabs the most head turns. But the vivid trend is taking a turn to the softer hues. Our collection for vivid colors the spring is all about the dusty pastels. Think cherry blossom pink, lavender and silvery blue. The ultimate dusty look is the grey/silver hair color trend. Ask your HC stylist more about adding in a pop of pastel. You can do a peek a boo streak underneath or go full head into the soft shades of spring.

Must-have products

spring trends Cibu spring roll product at Hair CutterySpring Trends Cibu Shine Squad products at Hair Cuttery

One of the key trends going into the warmer seasons is to embrace your natural texture. Whether you have wavy locks or a tight curl pattern, now is the time to work with it. Start with a haircut to eliminate split ends and then give your hair a break from hot tools. Stock up on products that accentuate your natural hair curl pattern. If you’re not sure, be sure to consult with your HC stylist. Rodney’s top picks for must-have products this season are Cibu Spring Roll for curly locks. This lightweight cream is humidity-resistant and defines and holds curl shape while keeping the frizzies away. Another excellent product to amplify your texture is Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame.   Featuring sustainably-sourced Babassu Oil, this smoothing cream provides frizz control while hydrating, detangling and protecting hair from heat up to 450 degrees. For all hair types, go for Cibu Shine Squad! There are three formulas for each hair type. Cibu Shine Squad Mist is perfect for fine hair, Cibu Shine Squad Treatment is ideal for all hair types, and Cibu Shine Squad Gloss Drops and ideal for medium to thick hair types. Use alone to add shine and control frizz, or add a pump or two into your weekly mask for a hair cocktail that will leave your locks super silky!

Are you a guy who’s looking to change up your appearance but you’re not sure where to start? Growing a beard might be the perfect way to mix things up! Beards of all lengths, thicknesses, and styles are a popular trend. There are many resources to learn how to take care of a beard, but we at Hair Cuttery want to help you pair that great beard with an even better hairstyle.

Work on that Beard

Long beards, groomed beards, short beards, and scruffy beards—all of these are on trend and can look great. Before you begin, there are factors to consider, like how well you can grow a beard and what products you might need to help maintain it. It might take some time and dedication for your facial hair to grow in, especially if you find yourself with patchy areas, but it’s best not to shave and just let it go. If that leaves you feeling a bit unkempt, keep your beard trimmed with clippers while the slower-growing hairs catch up.

Patience is also part of the process because chances are a week or two into the grow-out phase your face might really itch, but keep the goal in mind (oh, and use some good beard oil!).

If you’re aiming for a close-cut bearded look, most hairstyles will work perfectly because there isn’t the need to “balance” your hairstyle as with a longer, fuller beard. As your beard begins to grow, have some fun with it. There are lots of grooming tools and oils specifically for beards so keeping it tame and in good health is easy with some devotion. Once you’ve reached the desired length, all you need to do is find a hairstyle that will work best with your beard length!

What Beard with What Style

Either you have the beard or it’s a work in progress, so now it’s time to think about the hair. Here are some popular hairstyles and how well they pair with beards:

  1. The comb-over/side-part: This style is classic and can be achieved with clippers or scissors, whatever your preference. This is a safe, versatile style that looks nice and neat with a close-cut beard. You might feel like you’re playing things a little safe here, but that is perfectly fine. After all, a beard is a beard, no matter its length, and this style is great for giving you a stylish yet still professional appearance.
  2. Razor cut: Razor haircuts typically have a tousled, textured look to them and fall around a medium to long length. These styles create a sexy, carefree, casual feel. With a lot of texture and focus on your hair, a close-cut or medium length (but tidy) beard would pair well and keep the cut looking suave, not messy.
  3. The Quiff: This style is sleek and versatile. The back and sides of your hair would be kept quite short and faded with various length clippers. The top will maintain much volume and be swept back. This style is very trendy and can be paired with long or short beards. If you decide on a long beard, tapering down the sides is a good choice to keep this style sleek and elongated. From your sideburns down toward your chin, cut the hair to gradually get longer so your fade blends seamlessly into your beard. A heavy disconnect is sometimes ok but not advised here because it would take away from the smooth transition from hair to beard that classifies this as a sleek style.
  4. Long hair: Whether you like your hair to fall at your shoulders or longer, or enjoy throwing it up into the notorious “man-bun,” adding a beard will keep this style fresh and alluring. Since you have long hair, a long beard would be a little aggressive and too distracting. Keep the beard simple so the focus can remain on your luscious locks. A shorter, either clean cut or messy beard, would be appealing with this style giving you just enough edge.
  5. No hair: There is nothing wrong with being bald, especially because you get the beard of choice. Whether you’ve gone bald because of genetics or simply by choice, the type of beard you wear is entirely up to you. It could be anywhere from long to short, tame to scruffy, since the focus will only be on it. There is no balance to worry about here.

Decisions, Decisions

Facial hair is an essential part of a well-maintained style, whether you want to grow it or shave it off. Don’t panic at the thought of trying to grow a beard, because its care doesn’t mean you have to add tons of time into your morning routine. Talk with your Hair Cuttery stylist about the best pairing for your hairstyle and the beard you want or have. Try one combination and if it doesn’t work, try another. Embracing change can be positive, so while trends shift, change up your look with your trusted and professional Hair Cuttery stylist.

Men’s Haircuts to try right now

Men’s haircuts has evolved over the last few years, and with so many options, it can be difficult to decide which look is the best for you. Whether you have curly or straight hair, prefer a high fade or a short crop, Hair Cuttery has a mens haircut recommendation for you to try. Select your favorite and bring it into your local HC salon to have your stylist cut your hair accordingly and use the steps below to recreate the look at home.

Hard part with tight fade

Tight Fade Men's Haircut

This look is perfect if you want an easy haircut that you can quickly comb to one side. First, decide where your hair’s part will be. This means that one side will be kept long and one will be short, so let your stylist know your preference. Ask for a tight fade that goes up to the nape of the neck and reaches the temples on the sides. The top should be cut so that one side is long enough to comb over. To style the look, lightly rub Redken Brews Cream Pomade through your hair while it’s damp. Use a comb to brush your hair over to the preferred side. For extra help keeping the hair in place, finish off the look by adding Redken Brews Hairspray.

High Fade and Curly Hair

Curls can be tricky because they require a little more work to tame, but they’re not impossible to style. To get the perfect haircut, ask your stylist to keep the hair on the sides and back short and fade into hair two to three inches long on top. Rub Redken Brews Holding Gel into your hands, then use your fingers to squeeze or “scrunch” the product through your curls.

Slicked Back Pompadour with a soft taper

Pompadour style Men's Haircut

Make this cut your new look if you want some height and volume to your hair. Ask your stylist to create a soft taper from the neckline up to the crown in the back and from the temples up to the round of your head on the sides. The top should be left long enough so that your hair can easily be brushed back toward the crown. To score a pompadour, use a comb to brush damp hair back and away from your face while blow drying it. Starting at the hairline, apply Redken Brews Extreme Gel using your fingertips and spread it evenly through the hair. Use your palms to press down gently and flatten any loose strands that are out of place.

Short Crop haircut with brushed back style

The short crop is a haircut worth experimenting with for guys who have thick hair and want something longer than the classic Caesar haircut. To get the cut, ask your stylist to give you a taper fade up to the temples of your head on the sides and up to the crown in the back. The hair that’s on top should be left two to three inches long. Starting at the back, brush the top section of your hair forward as you blow dry. Once the hair is dry, rub Redken Brews Clay Pomade between your hands to break up the product. Using your fingers, comb your hair toward your face and spread the product evenly through the hair. This will help add messy separation to your hair so that it doesn’t look stuck together.

Spring Trends

Spring is the season of change! Now is the time to come into Hair Cuttery for the latest Spring Trends. A new haircut and hair color is an easy way to refresh your look. Hair Cuttery has partnered with Celebrity Salon Professional, Rodney Cutler, to develop the hottest haircut and color looks for YOU. Rodney’s inspiration comes from the spring shows at New York Fashion Week. Rodney and his team work with many top fashion designers to send their looks down the runways. The shows are the launching pad for not only what’s next in fashion, but also the latest trends for hair and makeup. Rodney has taken this inspiration and reinvented classic looks with a modern twist for spring. Rodney said, “we always want to interpret the trends for each Guest in a way that suites their lifestyle and individuality”.

The Shag

It’s the little black dress of haircuts! The Bob really never goes out of style, but our bob is a modern version of a classic timeless style! Reinvented over centuries, the bob has been around since Cleopatra’s onyx bob with fringe through Vidal Sassoon‘s famous geometric five point cut bob. This haircut is also versatile in that you can customize the cut from a short to long length and go blunt or have textured ends. Victoria’s balayage blond highlights finish her total look. Keep hair healthy with haircare by Redken Extreme haircare line and style with Cibu Knot So Knotty and Cibu Finista Hairspray. Your HC Salon Professional can work with you to find the perfect bob and color options to upgrade your look!

Pixie cut

Rodney says, “The opportunity for a short cut presents itself when you are ready for change”. Our Pixie is a modernized version of a classic crop. This trademark style has been worn by unforgettable icons on the silver screen from the 1950’s through today. Pixie cuts range from as short as a half inch in some places to two or three inches long in others. The pixie offers a signature look with versatile styling from a casual soft blowout to a more clean elegant look defined with styling products. Lauren rocks this cut with  a warm, dark hue with subtle dimension to add sophistication.  Recommend haircare is Cibu Color Shampoo and Conditioner. Style at home with Redken Align 12 and Cibu Shine Squad Argan Oil Treatment.

Natural Look

“It’s so refreshing to see Guests willing and desiring to wear their natural texture”, said Rodney, and we couldn’t agree more! From the runways and red carpets to the sidewalks of America, the natural look is a celebration of individuality and diversity. From twists to afros, natural is effortless and beautiful. Our stunning model, Resnya, rocks her natural texture and curl pattern with the right hair care products for a soft, textured halo.  Style at home with Cibu Shine Squad Agran Oil Treatment, Cibu Sticky Rice and Redken Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame Cream.
